Our Impact

Lalela’s award-winning educational arts programme has enriched the lives of more than 55,000 children from low-income communities through our after-school and holiday workshops in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Many of the students who started at Lalela 10 years ago have not only completed high school and tertiary education, but have manifested their dreams into noteworthy careers and successful and meaningful life paths, in so many ways due to the transformative power of the arts.

Lalela provides safe spaces for youths in the hours when they are most vulnerable to abuse. The combined effects of poverty, unemployment and a lack of access to basic services have affected family and community structures, with the result that parental supervision can be lacking.

Lalela connects the arts to everything important in a child’s life, from core academics to critical life skills. Arts education is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical-thinking and language skills, and can also improve motivation, teamwork, concentration and confidence.

We use the power of creative expression to provide joy and enable whole-brain thinking, with the intention of creating community role models, innovators and problem solvers. Lalela students have an awakened sense of passion and purpose, and are inspired to dream about a different future.
